After the invention of the modern day computer, people realized the fast progress in technology and other fields. Today, computer is like a necessity for the society. If it is a simple grocery store or a college, usage of computers make the work very easy and fast. When Papyrus was used on a basis of a simple method to help people in recording language and numbers, the invention of the abacus took place; it helped people for counting numbers and also created eagerness amongst them to formulate something new and advanced. Years after years, many famous personalities showed their interest and contributed some or the other mechanisms which all together built the computer that we use today.
The earlier mechanical counting machines were lacking in the technology to make the design work. In fact, most of the hard parts were made of wood rather than metal. This history of computers, include many of those names of innovators in mathematics and computing who used their techniques to link and relate sites to build the base of the computer. As per Webster’s Dictionary, a “computer” is a programmable electronic device that does storage of data, recovery and processing. The idea of computing method actually developed in 1200′s; it was when a Moslem cleric had an idea for solving problems with a series of written procedures. As the method developed, a lot many genius minds worked on the method to implement this technology on a large scale.
During the 1640′s, introduction of mechanical calculators created a new hope among many scientists to work on computing method to build a device with storage capacity. Several attempts to manipulate the calculator mechanically failed and no results were obtained. Soon after the first mass production of mechanical and printable calculators in 1820, a man named Charles Babbage started his work on building a programmable machine. Babbage’s difference engine was later modified in 1842 and used by Ada Lovelace to translate mechanically a short written work. After this invention, a new revolution of building a programmable machine started worldwide and finally in early nineteenth century the introduction of Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer or ENIAC took place; this was the first computer on earth.
