Governments of a few countries have realized that the availability of the internet for their populations has now become as necessary as food and water. It was not surprising that availability of internet was declared a fundamental right by such governments. Though this concept might be still new, other governments might not follow with similar legislation in the short-term or even in the medium- term due to fiscal constraints, or other reasons. The fact remains that the internet has now acquired the status of a necessity.
Having started off as a tool for networking among a niche group of people, the internet has now acquired the status of a behemoth which engulfs the entire world with its power and reach. Today, large populations feel they cannot manage without the internet. Going a step further, any disruptions in the internet services can create havoc with the planet, since all critical applications and functions in the world happen through the internet.
It is not surprising then, that the internet has become a target of attacks by all anti-social groups from all regions of the world. All governments, organizations, and individuals fear such attacks. Regular warnings are issued to all users to protect themselves from such attacks through the use of anti-virus software and other internet security measures. The use of safe practices is one of the foremost lessons to be learned by all users of the internet, since any lapse can result in damage of not only their software, but even the hardware could get damaged. In many cases organizations have suffered massive damages affecting a large number of their computers, resulting in expensive repairs and replacement of software as well as hardware.
